Sorry it took so long, but Surreal-News is back. However, we have to start from scratch due to the hard drive dying in the server that was running it, and having no backups. Sorry about that.

Everyone please register again, and mods let me know so I can set you up. Let me know what other forums I should start. For now, we'll just have this main one.

Welcome back!

Hi lowlight, and thank you.
The site's being down allowed me to make a few new friends and visit lots of new places, but I 'm hoping the old magic can rise again here.
Surreal-News was my very favorite forum.
May it be so again.
:)

*gulp* errr umm

Whenever I don't recognize the area code I always think its one of those guys calling to tell me I've won a free trip to Florida - like who the heck would I even visit there

So anyway, I tend to ignore the calls. Unless of course the caller catches me while I am in a dead sleep. I don't have call display in the bedroom, but because a long distance call rings differently than a local call I tend to not answer those either. Sorry.

When will we get the ability to use avatars?

I like the way pictures are displayed as thumbnails in the picture thread.
Probably a lot less loading for slower connections.

Right.. So I see the spammers hath come already..

No smilies set-up yet..

Forum not set-up yet..

Also, the domain is b0rked. If you just use http://surreal-news.com you don't get the site at all. May want to fix that, also - deal with the damn bots before they become a real problem!

So where's lowlight?
Froberg addressed some good issues.
I've still gotta wonder when and if we'll get avatars.
Glad to be able to post here again, tho.

It's good to be back. :)

Did notice the domain was down, but I'm also glad Lowlight managed to upgrade the forum software as well. Lately, security bug alerts have been coming thick and fast with vBulletin.

Chainsaw Baron, I'm so happy to see you!

Life/career/womanizing going well for you?

Did someone say womanizing?? OOO!

Froberg
08-27-2008, 07:07 AM
I did raise some good points.

Personally, it doesn't feel like the same now.. it's all.. cold n' dead..

And lowlight isn't giving me cookies! :(

I would have to agree.

Last week I actually joined hardcoreware.net just to send lowlight a message. But, as usual, I didn't get a reply.

Chainsaw Baron, I'm so happy to see you!

Life/career/womanizing going well for you?Heh, yes. :)

Well, maybe I should answer that on three counts:

a) Life? Yes. I'm contracting as usual, this time for a big bank in Amsterdam. (One way to see the world: Get jobs in different cities. So far, in the last 12 months, I've lived in Düsseldorf, Brussels, Geneva and Amsterdam). I've also visited Zürich, Bern, Frankfurt and Berlin - but not actually stayed in those four cities for any great period of time (one weekend at a time, maximum).

b) Career? Well, to be strictly honest, I don't really have one. I just have some skills, and I pimp myself out to the highest bidder. :) But the pimping has been going well so far, and pay seems to be going up rather than down. I'm also a Sun Certified Systems administrator for Solaris 9 and 10 (did these at last!) as well as a certified Sun Cluster 3.2 Administrator (one of only <400 in the world, so it's still worth bragging about). I plan on taking the Networking and Security certifications for Solaris 9/10 next, followed by Hewlett-Packard HP-UX, IBM AIX and Microsoft MCSE certifications. Next year, when Solaris 11 comes out, I guess I can repeat the fun all over again...

c) Womanising? Well, let me put it this way: I have one woman - my fiancée. I intend to keep it that way. :) She's German, her family don't speak any English, so this has been a *really* good incentive for me to ze Deutsche sprache gut lernen! As if that wasn't enough, I'm also picking up Dutch in my current job (strangely, my German knowledge *really* helps with this!) Our wedding will be in 2010 - and we've already been engaged for one year (which in turn was about a year after we met and started dating).

Froberg

Well, german helping with dutch isn't that surprising. After all, dutch is mostly french/german/english words cobbled together :D

Hello, everyone. I'm glad to see the surreal-news forums are back up; when they went down a part of me died. Seriously. Really, it did! Alright, it didn't. I was sad, though. Don't let it happen again!
